About Christophe Pacalet Fleurie

Being fearless in spirit makes you brave. At least that’s what we see in Christophe Pacalet, a micro-producer from Beaujolais, who has always been driven by his heart, even if it means changing course. And the truth is that he has done pretty well. After studying biology and chemistry, he abandoned the idea of working in a laboratory to create his own potions as a chef in a restaurant in Lyon and then in the Caribbean. But throughout all this time, all the winemaking knowledge that his uncle Marcel Lapierre (late master of Morgon) had taught him in his cellar was going round inside his head. Setting up his own winemaking project was a dream that finally came true in 1999 with the help of Lapierre. This is where Pacalet focusses primarily on beautiful winemaking by purchasing quality organic grapes from the various Beaujolais denominations. An exhaustive work that is not only giving him very good results but is also helping to reshape the classic way of thinking about wine made with “bought grapes”.

One of the crus he has chosen has resulted in Christophe Pacalet Fleurie, a wine from the AOC Fleurie made with old Gamay vines. The vines are planted in granitic soils and are grown without the use of chemicals that could mask the purest expression of the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand in 25 kg boxes and, once in the winery, the grapes undergo carbonic maceration in whole bunches without SO2 for 10 to 20 days. Finally, they are pressed and the resulting wine rests on lees in used 228-litre oak barrels for 8-12 months.

Light and low in alcohol, Christophe Pacalet Fleurie is a wine that can be enjoyed at any time. However, if you think this is a simple wine, you would be completely wrong. This Fleurie has a remarkable presence that is perfect for aging. A challenge from an intrepid winegrower.

2020

Christophe Pacalet Fleurie 2020 is a juicy red wine with a floral and spicy nose. On the palate it is dense, rich and enveloping. A velvety wine with refreshing acidity, remarkable presence and a persistent finish.
