About Cepa 21
Cepa 21 is a red wine produced by the Cepa 21 Winery in the Ribera del Duero D.O. region.
Cepa 21 is made solely using Tinta Fina (100%) grapes. The grapes come from vines which date back 25 years, planted at an altitude of over 800 metre in the towns of Castrillo de Duero, Pesquera de Duero and Nava de Duero, which lie in the province of Valladolid. They are plots of soil of different limestone and clay layers. All of the vines come from a clone cuttings of ancient vineyards from Pesquera de Duero. There is a dry continental climate, a very harsh climate that is characterized by a very rigorous and long winters where frosts are frequent.
Cepa 21 is produced in an ecologial manner. Mineral fertilizers are not used in production, only sheep manure is used, nor are any herbicides used. Before the vinification process, the grapes pass a sorting table, this process is to remove the leaves, organic residue and defective bunches. After the grapes have been pressed, a cold maceration takes place. The wine is then fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks of 20,000 liters. Finally before being bottled.
Cepa 21 is aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels
