About Bodega Cerrón Matas Altas Blanco

As they say, "not everything is set in stone in the D.O. Jumilla", and thus Carlos and Juan Cerdán are penning this new chapter of the appellation that spans across the southeast of Albacete and the north of Murcia. Now, the brothers are poised with pen and paper (or computer keyboard) to begin crafting the new narrative of this enterprise, established in 1895.
 
A century later, the ethos of Bodega Cerrón remains unaltered: to safeguard the vineyard heritage and to rejuvenate those that were nearly forsaken. In this manner, by producing wines in the present —without compromising the future— the Bodega Cerrón Matas Altas Blanco is born.
 
Situated in the municipality of Fuente-Álamo, in the southeast of the province, the two brothers organically cultivate approximately 26 hectares of vineyards. On calcareous soils interspersed with sand and marl, at altitudes ranging from 840 to 900 meters above sea level, they meticulously tend to all the ungrafted vines of the Fortaleza area, where the Bodega Cerrón Matas Altas Blanco originates. Utilizing the macabeo, the airén, and a selection of other white varieties (such as tortosí, malvasía, or pardilla), they capture the essence of this organic land, which is currently transitioning to biodynamic practices. This ethos was the seed of this family business, initiated by great-grandfather Francisco Cerdán, who had the foresight to identify and select the optimal areas for vine cultivation.
 
The Bodega Cerrón Matas Altas Blanco is harvested by hand and transported to the winery, where all the varieties are co-fermented. The Bodega Cerrón Matas Altas Blanco undergoes fermentation and completes its maturation process resting in large-capacity foudres (approximately 5,000 liters).
