About Batič Pinela
If scarce means exclusive, this is the story of Slovenian wine. If you’re lucky enough to come across one of them, you’ll have the chance to try something different, timeless and out of this world. Although Slovenia has long been overshadowed by other European wine-producing nations, the truth is that in recent years it has been emerging more and more onto the world’s most prestigious markets. One of the great wineries is Batič, which dates back to 1592 when the monks of the St Rok chapel (Šempas) made wines for Mass. This tradition has been passed down over four hundred years and has become a benchmark for the wines of the Vipava Valley (Slovenia).
One of Batič’s products is Batič Pinela, a wine that starts life in a wonderful vineyard full of alpine, karstic and Mediterranean beauty. These vines are 20 years old on average, growing grapes of the native Pinela variety that enjoy their position in the sun and the Bora wind. They are cultivated using biodynamic agriculture with official Demeter certification and harvesting is carried out by hand at the optimum point of ripeness. In the winery the grapes macerate for 5 days and then ferment with native yeasts. It is then aged for 24 months in large Slovenian oak barrels.
Made with the winery’s star variety, Batič Pinela is a wine with an intense fruity character. This is a clear example of the great winemaking stories that are being written in Slovenia, based on a strong tradition accompanied by a strong innovative approach. Quite a surprise!
2017 |
Batič Pinela 2017 is a creamy white wine with soft aromas of ripe yellow fruit, vanilla notes and hints of toast. On the palate it is fruity, elegant and harmonious. A well-balanced wine with an unctuous mid-palate, marked acidity and a long finish with complex retronasal aromas. |
