About Ar.Pe.Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio
We are sure that here at Decántalo, we are drowning you in recommendations. We want to do our job as best we can! Sometimes we might get it right and sometimes we might not (sorry in advance). Not every day can be a good day. However, we are sure that you won’t be disappointed with this suggestion: Ar. Pe. Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio.
Ar. Pe. Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio is a single-variety wine made from Nebbiolo delle Alpi (Alpine Nebbiolo), a red grape that is grown in the D.O.C. Valtellina Superiore, in Lombardy, northwestern Italy. Here, near the Alps, this red variety, a superstar in other regions like Barolo and Barbaresco, is also known as Chiavennasca, and reveals its most exceptional side. This is mainly due to its location in a unique terroir (between the Rhaetian Alps and the Orobies), dominated by the sun, which makes it a tremendously favourable place for these wines. Here the vineyards are set out in terraces, on poor soils of glacial origin granitic rock, which forces the Nebbiolo vines to do their best to find the nutrients they need to grow.
For years, this area has been home to Ar. Pe. Pe, a hundred year old winery, with some 13 hectares, which today continues to produce some of the most interesting wines in the area. In a land of great reds, the wines made by Ar. Pe. Pe continue to surprise and dazzle. Their current work is the legacy of centuries of work. Founded in 1860, Ar. Pe. Pe continues to master the use of Nebbiolo, long macerations (over 100 days) and aging times (much longer than average). This last step is key. The Ar. Pe. Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio wine spends an average of three years resting in the company’s underground cellars at Via del Buon Consiglio number 4.
The vineyards lie at 370 metres above sea level, at the foot of Grumello, and are the starting point in the creation of Ar. Pe.Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio. This is followed by a manual harvest, where the Nebbiolo must be perfectly ripe, and a maceration of 102 days in wooden vats. Following fermentation, Ar. Pe. Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio rests for several years in the underground cellars. “So the Nebbiolo delle Alpi returns to the belly of the same mountain that created it,” they say at Ar. Pe. Pe. After this, Ar. Pe. Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio is available for tasting at the end of the summer, making it an essential wine for this season.
Take note and be sure to be quick in trying Ar.Pe.Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio. Our advice might not always be good. But we can promise that this time it is.
2016 | Ar.Pe.Pe Grumello Riserva Buonconsiglio 2016 is a mature wine. We have already said that you should take your time when trying this red wine properly. In principle, it is a complex wine, mixing aromas and flavours typical of long aging. Dried flowers, mountain grass, mint, citrus and cherries appear on the nose. Really quite something! Despite its volume and body on the palate, this is a fine and elegant wine, with a long journey and a saline finish. |
