Abel Mendoza Jarrarte is a wood-aged red wine made by Abel Mendoza with the Tempranillo variety in the D.O.Ca Rioja (La Rioja).
Among the most recent wineries in La Rioja, Abel Mendoza is one of the ones that has had the biggest impact. Founded in 1988 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, this is a small project that began by producing young wines, but that now makes wines that are aged in carefully selected French oak barrels.
The Abel Mendoza Jarrarte wine comes from vines with an average age of 35 years old, growing in different plots at the edge of the Ebro river. These are rugged and varied soils composed of clay, marl and fine sandstones. The vines are cultivated using respectful agriculture and organic methods to protect the natural balance of the terroir. The harvest is manual at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, the Abel Mendoza Jarrarte grapes are macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 12 months in French oak barrels before bottling.
Like most of the great new generation wines of the D.O.Ca. La Rioja, Abel Mendoza Jarrarte is a great quality limited production wine. A delicious mix of precious plots.
