Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

Vetus is a single-variety Tinta de Toro red wine made by the Vetus winery in the D.O. Toro in Castilla y León, Spain.

The Vetus wine is made with grapes from a selection of the best plots around the estate on north to south-facing slopes, with sandy-loam soils and vegetal cover. The vines are traditionally cultivated and

the harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes. When the grapes reach the winery, they pass over the selection table and are partially destemmed and pressed, then fermented in stainless steel tanks with pressing pistons. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and is aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels.

Vetus is the flagship wine from this young winery that, since 2003, has been committed to preserving the essence of the Toro wine region without missing out on the chance to bring out new nuances and discover new secrets of these exceptional landscapes and terroirs , showcasing them through their wines.

Since 2003, Bodegas Vetus chooses to preserve the essence of Toro, at the same time as they are inspired by the discovery of new concepts, new nuances. His extensive experience in the hotel and restaurant business lead Gonzalo Antón to create a wine, Vetus, which soon became one of the most appreciated ones in restaurants. The addition of new production techniques and his desire to continue improving have drawn him towards creating his own style, which consolidated over time. Quality, the connection with gastronomy and the fondness for the land, are the main pillars of Bodega Vetus.
In Toro, the red wines are mainly made with the Tinta de Toro grape variety, planted on soils of fluvial origin by the influence of the Duero River and its tributaries, grown on poor, sandy and dry soils the further away you move from the river. Toro offers powerful wines, well bodied, flavourful, complex, and tannic. Although on a smaller scale, the region also produces white wines using the Verdejo and Malvasía varieties. Since the ´80’s, Toro has experienced a revival in its wines, thanks to a new generation of highly skilled winemakers and the installation of many big names in the region, such as Pintia, a winery belonging to the Vega Sicília group, or Teso la Monja, part of Sierra Cantabria.
