Verónica Ortega Quite is a red wine produced by Verónica Ortega in Valtuille de Abajo (León) D.O. Bierzo.

Verónica Ortega, natural from Cádiz and trained in the best wineries of Burgundy and Priorat, was attracted to the terroir of El Bierzo. She decided to settle in Valtuille de Abajo to start to produce her own wines, thus initiating her most personal project.

Verónica Ortega mainly works with old Mencía vineyards using organic precepts. Vinification is carried out traditionally, with spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts and low amounts of sulphites. Wines that are faithful to the terroir, with character and a great personality.

Verónica Ortega Quite is a wine made form Mencía from vineyards located in Valtuille that are over 80 years old, planted on clayey-sandy soils with a lot of minerals.

They are manually harvested and placed in 15-kg boxes. At the winery, the grapes are destemmed before they ferment in stainless steel deposits, with a slight extraction. Maceration takes approximately 10 days. This wine is aged for 8 months, 50% in used oak barrels, and the other 50% in 800-litre clay vessels.

Verónica Ortega Quite is a fluid, fruity and juicy wine. On the nose, aromas of red and black fruit stand out. In the mouth, it is easy to drink and fresh, with a mineral and slightly balsamic background.

Bierzo wine is on the rise. It is a region defined by its small scale work, with plots scattered around, very old vines, artisan work of the small scale wineries, and the character of their principal variety, the Mencía grape, which produces fresh, fruity and delicious wines. Although the region is well known mostly for its red wines, it also produces white and rosé wines. If the red wines here are defined by the Mencía variety, then the white wines here are defined by the Godello. Godello grape has great aromatic potential, as well as an excellent balance between alcohol and acidity.  Despite the great potential of El Bierzo, its rise in the wine world would not have been possible without two people: Raúl Pérez and Ricardo Pérez. Two great winemakers who in little time have been able to produce critically acclaimed wines from the Bierzo region.
