About Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º Año

Vega Sicília Valbuena 5º Año is an excellent Tempranillo and Merlot coupage, produced by the legendary Vega Sicilia winery, in the Ribera del Duero.

Vega Sicilia, part of the Tempos Vega Sicilia group, is one of the best-known producers in the world. It dates back to 1864 but was acquired by David Álvarez Díez in 1982 and since then his name has continued to spread across the world due to the high quality of his wines. His philosophy, taking pride in things done well, has made him a winemaking legend. 

Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º año comes from plots sitting on gentle slopes with highly expressive soils composed of deep calcium material. It is made mainly with the Tinta Fina variety (Tempranillo) with a touch of Merlot. This amount varies from vintage to vintage.

The must ferments with its native yeasts at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. It then ages in different sized new and used French and American barrels, and then finally rests in the bottle for five years, hence its name, Valbuena 5º año.

A process full of patience and complexity, but always the same, so that the only difference between the crops is the weather, which creates a great vintage wine that is representative of the terroir it comes from.

Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º Año 2017 is a young, dry and very expressive red wine with a dark cherry colour and predominant floral aromas (violet), blackberry, sandalwood and vanilla. The palate is harmonious, with spicy and slightly chewy tannins. Fresh and succulent.
2016

Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º Año 2016 is a red wine that encapsulates a vintage characterized by a mild winter, a spring of contrasts, and a temperate summer, culminating in an impeccable maturation. The Tinto Fino variety truly lives up to its name, presenting itself with elegance, complexity, and concentration.
2014 Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º año 2014 is an intense, expressive and complex red wine. The nose reveals its aging potential with a range of aromas that perfectly balance the presence of wood with the expressiveness of the fruit. There are also nuances of chocolate, smoke and pencil lead with balsamic, vanilla and spiced notes. On the palate it reveals its character with elegance and silkiness, leaving a powerful fruity and meaty impression as it passes. Excellent storage capacity.
