Castro Ventosa Valtuille Vino de Villa is a red wine coupage of the Mencia, Bastardo, Garnacha Tintorera and other white varieties produced by the Castro Ventosa winery in the DO Bierzo, in Castilla y León, Spain.
After a lot of hard word from local wineries and the Bierzo Denomination of Origin itself, new quality classifications were approved for their wines and Castro Ventosa Valtuille Vino de Villa is one of the first Vino de Villa wines to hit the market. With this new classification, the denomination continues to prioritise quality over quantity in their productions. This is an interesting region where they often use ancient varieties.
Castro Ventosa Valtuille Vino de Villa is made with clusters from old vines located in various parts of Valtuille. The coupage is dominated by the Mencia variety. The varieties ferment separately in 500-litre oak vats. The resulting wine ages for 12 months in oak barrels.
Castro Ventosa is a hundred-year-old winery and it is also the name of the land where the Pérez family originate. This family works hard to preserve their roots and traditions and their wines are made under the direction of one of the most renowned winemakers in the world, Raúl Pérez. These wines have impressed the most prominent critics and they continue to win high scores and positive comments from the most knowledgeable people.
