Terra d'Uro La Enfermera is a red wine from the D.O. Toro, produced by the winery Terra d'Uro.
Terra d'Uro is a project by Oscar Garrote, Cristiano Van Zeller and Pipa Ortega, three oenologists with a long history in the world of wine. Here, they are seeking to produce wines with character that reflect the characteristics of the area. Do to this, they have a unique terroir with vineyards of different ages, from 15 to over 140 years old, from the pre-phylloxeric times. They are small plots that form a set of about 7 hectares, with around 900 vines each.
Terra d'Uro La Enfermera is a red wine made from Tinta de Toro that comes from a farm located in Venialbo. 15-year-old vines planted on limestone soils at 800 metres above sea level. Cultivation according to the parameters of organic viticulture.
Harvesting is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard and in the winery. It goes through cold maceration before fermenting in stainless steel deposits. 50% of the wine ages for 4 months in French and American oak barrels, while the rest stands in the deposits.
Terra d'Uro La Enfermera is a fresh wine, with body and very fruity. This wine is a tribute to the nurses who served the army of Isabel the Catholic, in the battle of Toro (1476), and who gave strength to the wounded by giving them wine with their meals, saving the lives of many of them.
