About Tatsis Malagouzia
The Treaty of Lausanne was a peace treaty that established the borders of modern Turkey signed between the governments of Greece, the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) and the Allied nations of the First World War. Responsible for dividing up the Ottoman Empire, the treaty initially guaranteed the protection of the Greek minority in Turkey and the Turkish minority in Greece. However, according to the so-called population exchange agreement, most of the Greek population in Turkey ended up in Greece and a significant amount of the Turkish population of western Thrace ended up in Turkey. The Tatsis family took advantage of this event in 1924 to acquire 4 hectares of vineyards on a limestone hill that was perfect for viticulture in the beautiful village of Goumenissa, in Central Macedonia (Greece). This property has now grown to 14 hectares and this is where brothers Periklis and Stergios Tatsis are committed to organic and biodynamic agriculture and minimal intervention winemaking. All of their expertise have made this winery one of the pioneers of organic agriculture in Greece and this also allows them to showcase the varieties with the most authentic expression.
But if the Tatsis Winery is known for one thing, it is for their white wines. These are fresh and pure wines that are completely natural and super drinkable. Tatsis Malagouzia is a case in point. A white wine made from a Malagouzia grape lying at 250-300m above sea level and of course grown following organic and biodynamic principles. Once harvested by hand, the grapes are gently pressed and the resulting must ferments spontaneously in stainless steel tanks and ages on lees for 3 years.
From a particular area land with a whole lot of history behind it, Tatsis Malagouzia is the ultimate expression of freshness and purity. A white wine that you will fall in love with from the first sip and that will take you to unimaginable depths.
2020 |
Tatsis Malagouzia 2020 is a luscious white wine, brimming with intricate aromas of stone fruit and grapefruit, underscored by hints of white blossoms and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is invigorating, pristine, and velvety. This medium-bodied wine boasts a vigorous acidity, a delightful texture, and a lingering finish redolent of nuts. |
