A Greek white grape variety of great oenological interest, Malagouzia is the quintessence of the modern renaissance of new Greek wines. After being brought back from oblivion in the 70s, it has returned to the spotlight and is now thriving. If there is one person who has been able to rediscover its potential better than anyone, it has to be the Tatsis Estate, a family winery run by two brothers who are committed to organic and biodynamic practices and minimal intervention winemaking. It is thanks to this working philosophy that Stergios and Periklis Tatsis achieve a Malagouzia unlike any other. A wine that in its “orange” version manages to enhance all its aromatic qualities to an even higher level.
So, Tatsis Malagouzia Orange is an orange wine made from a Malagouzia grape grown at 250-300 m above sea level and cultivated using organic and biodynamic principles. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested and sorted by hand, gently crushed and macerated with the skins for 30 days. It then ferments with the marc and finally remains on its lees for 12 months in oak barrels.
Fresh and powerful, Tatsis Malagouzia Orange showcases a unique expression of the Malagouzia grape. A very special orange wine that, although different, is very accessible. For this it deserves all our recognition.
