Culture, understood as the transmission of information by learning, has taken place throughout human history. The Rietschs, a family with links to agriculture for seven generations in Mittelbergheim, a small village at the foot of the Vosges (Alsace), enjoy a great wine legacy. An amazing background that reached its peak in the early 1970s, when Pierre and Doris Rietsch set up the winery that bears their name. With this cultural transmission as a starting point, they offer natural artisan wines, respecting history but innovating every day.
Among the wines produced each vintage, Rietsch Tout Rouge is a red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes from young vineyards on clay-limestone soils mixed with lime. They use organic agriculture and have been certified organic since 2008. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand. In the winery, the whole clusters ferment on their own in a tank with a 22-day “semi-carbonic” maceration with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 6 months in foudres and finally bottled in litre bottles, lightly filtered and with a minimal amount of sulphur.
Considering that Jean-Pierre was one of the first winemakers in Alsace who dared to experiment with maceration, Rietsch Tout Rouge is a very good opportunity to enjoy a wine committed to the territory and to sharing the local culture. A wine in a one litre bottle that satisfies thirst and curiosity.
