About Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé

Pol Roger is one of the oldest houses in the A.O.C. Champagne. Founded in 1849 when Pol Roger made its first wine sale, it has had plenty of time to win over the most famous and demanding palates in history, like the British Royal Family and politician Winston Churchill, who became a loyal customer. At that time, when the company was advancing at the pace of the two great World Wars, Pol Roger decided to increase production. And Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé was born in 1961.

Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé is a sparkling wine made from Brut Vintage, another wine, made with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to which about another 15% of Pinot Noir is added after bottling. So, after making the base wine, Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé waits until the second fermentation, when another batch of this red variety is added, selected from the best crus of the Montagne de Reims. This sub-region, between the Marne and the Vesle, is one of the places where this variety is mainly found on the typical limestone soil, a mixture of marl and chalk.

In the winery, the Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé winemaking process begins with two rackings. One in the press, right after pressing, and a second in the cold, right when it is placed in the stainless steel tanks (where it will remain for about 24 hours). This is the moment fermentation begins, at least it should, with each of the varieties kept separate. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and the wine is finally blended with the right proportions depending on the vintages. Once bottled, Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé is left to settle for a second fermentation in the house’s deepest cellars, some 33 metres under the street. During this time, manual remuage or stirring is essential. This is where the bottles are turned horizontally to ensure that all the wine is in contact with the lees. This artisan approach, which is very important for sparkling wines, is a traditional part of the work in the A.O.C. Champagne, which is becoming more and more mechanised. Finally, following the corresponding disgorgement, Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé is released for sale. A sparkling wine fit for a king.

2016

Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé 2016 is a finely crafted sparkling wine, exhibiting a pinkish-orange hue with salmon highlights. The bouquet is remarkably intense, dominated by fruity nuances that persist and evolve into more floral scents. On the palate, it is intricate, boasting a harmonious balance between warmth and vivacity. It is profoundly intense and vibrant.

2015

Pol Roger Vintage Brut Rosé 2015 is a salmon-pink colour sparkling wine with hints of orange. The nose is very expressive, with notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry) and rose petals. The palate is warm, with sweet notes that are also reminiscent of cherries. Complex and fresh. Very intense, powerful and well balanced.
