Piper-Heidsieck Brut is a creamy sparkling wine that stands out for its intensity, expressiveness and the exquisite carbonic presence. The nose reveals notes of white fruit and citrus. On the palate it is fresh, fruity and balanced.
Marie Antoinette, Queen consort of France, married future King Louis XVI at the age of 14, and was well known for being capricious, epicurean and a spendthrift. She always had strange and curious cravings and enjoyed exclusive dishes and drinks worthy of royalty. Her favourite drink was champagne, which won her over at first sip when she was given a taste of it by Florens-Louis Heidsieck himself, founder of today’s Piper Heidsieck champagne house. Her devotion was such that, according to historians, she even had a cup designed in the shape of her left breast as a gift for her husband. Although gossips spread the rumour that the model had actually been Madame de Pompadour, her husband’s mistress, and the cup became widely known as the Pompadour cup.
The French maison founded by German Florens-Louis Heidsieck, whose surname was joined by the name Piper when the sales manager Henri-Guillaume Piper became a partner, has been building an empire with its own personality, and using mainly the Pinot Noir variety. Their flagship product Piper-Heidsieck Brut, is a cuvée of Pinot Noir with some Meunier and Chardonnay from vineyards within the AOC Champagne. In the winery, the grapes are vinified following the champenoise method, incorporating wines from different vintages and resting for 30 months. During disgorging, 9g/l of sugar is added.
One of the great Champagne houses, Piper Heidsieck creates very pleasant sparkling wines with their own personality. Their flagship wine, Piper-Heidsieck Brut, is expressive, fresh, very elegant and a real treat.
