Pela Roques 2021 is an atypical Mediterranean red wine, fresh and vibrant. On the nose, it reveals fresh red fruit with notes of Mediterranean herbs, scrubland, and a very subtle mineral nuance. About Pela Roques

The pela-roques or wallcreeper is a captivating bird. It inhabits the Mediterranean mountains, where it spends its life meticulously searching for food, scaling sheer rocky cliffs, and seeking insects in the most hidden crevices of the stones. At Bodega Mustiguillo, winemaker Toni Sarrión decided to embrace this very philosophy, exploring unorthodox corners of the terrain to bring forth his most daring line of wines; a handcrafted endeavour to unearth diamonds in the rough where the land seems most unyielding and inhospitable.
 
Hailing from the north of Requena in Valencia, Pela Roques is a red wine that originates from Finca Conejeros, a mountainous Mediterranean vineyard located at an impressive altitude of 850 metres above sea level. The jewel of the project is a unique parcel of merely 3.3 hectares planted in 1998, where old syrah vines sink their roots into an exceptional soil composed of sandstone rocks with quartz and feldspar, remnants of ancient Jurassic marine mud that preserve small fossils.
 
After a manual harvest from strictly organic cultivation, upon arrival at the winery, the process is precise and sequential. After passing through a cluster selection table, the grapes ferment with their own indigenous yeasts in large oak vats, retaining 50% of the stems, which is the woody skeleton of the cluster that provides structure and freshness. A slow and gentle maceration with the skins is carried out to extract colour and aroma without imparting harshness. Subsequently, it undergoes an 8-month aging in 80-hectolitre oak vats, culminating in its bottling.
 
Pela Roques demonstrates that perseverance and respect for the land can transform the hardest rock into a silky caress.
