Parada de Atauta is a red wine from the D.O Ribera del Duero produced by the Dominio de Atauta winery. The winery, founded in 1999, is located in the Valle de Atauta (Soria), which lies in the east of Ribera del Duero.
The wine is produced using only Tinto Fino grapes. The grapes used to make this wine come from old vineyards that are more than 60 years in age, some are even pre-Phylloxera since the composition of the sandy-calcareous soil prevents the phylloxera parasite from surviving.
The vineyards are also situated 1000 metres above sea level. The cultivation of the vineyards is largely based on the principles of biodynamic agriculture, which follows natural cycles and attempts to intervene as little as possible in the development of the vines.
In regards to the production and winemaking process of Parada de Atauta, traditional methods are used. After fermentation and maceration, Parada de Atauta is aged for 12 months in french oak barrels.
Dominio de Atauta is a relatively new project. Since the beginning, its aim has been to express all the character of the Valley of Atauta, at 1,000 metres of altitude, in the province of Soria. Here, some of their wines are made from pre-phylloxera vineyards of Tinto Fino and some others from vines that are over 85 years old. Relying on this phyolosphy and adding an excellent human factor to the unique conditions of the terroir, the wines from Dominio de Atauta have managed to place themselves among the most renowned ones, within an outstanding Denomination of Origin like Ribera del Duero.
