Nicolas Chemarin Beaujolais Villages Les Vignes de Jeannot 2018 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red fruits and wild berries accompanied by spicy notes. The palate is clean, fragrant and crisp. A wine with noticeable acidity, well-integrated tannins and a long finish with smoky touches.
Using the nickname “Petit Grobis”, a term used to describe the small hollows in trees where owls hide, Nicolas Chemarin has made a name for himself among emerging winegrowers in Beaujolais. The secret of his success lies in taking meticulous care of the vineyards that belonged to his ancestor, Jean Chemarin, and achieving maximum expression with minimum intervention. Located in the village of Marchampt, as the fourth generation to manage the 8-hectare family estate, he has taken on the responsibility of caring for and giving prominence to micro-plots with rocky soils to create wines with extraordinary density and depth.
His Les Vignes de Jeannot, a wine named after his ancestor, is a Beaujolais-Villages that comes from a small plot of old Gamay vines planted on granite soils at an altitude of 450 metres. He works biodynamically and every process is carried out taking into account the lunar phases. Following a manual harvest, fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks with 50% of the grapes undergoing carbonic maceration and without using any oenological additives. Then the wine ages in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months. Finally, it is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
With a very reasonable price tag for the quality, Nicolas Chemarin Beaujolais Villages Les Vignes de Jeannot is a charming wine that shines for its freshness, density and minerality. An authentic new generation Beaujolais.
