About Mullineux Syrah
Mullineux Syrah is a barrel-aged red wine made in Swartland (Coastal Region, South Africa) by Mullineux & Leeu with the Syrah variety.
After working in different wineries in France, South Africa and California, Chris and Andrea Mullineux set up their own winery in 2007 in Swartland, north of the South African capital. They decided to start their new project there, attracted by the granite soils and shales that are so good for the strain. In 2017 they joined forces with the Hindu Analjit Singh and his company, Leeu Collection, to form a new winemaking company called Mullineux & Leeu, which is bringing a revolution to the area with authentic wines of supreme quality. So much so that they set up the SIP movement (Swartland Independent Producers), a group of 21 producers who are committed to expressing the great terroir of the area without using any oenological products that could mask their wines.
Mullineux Syrah comes from vines aged between 20 and 30 years old. Strains that come from seven different vineyards with mainly granite, iron and shale soils. Sustainable agriculture is used at all times to protect the natural environment. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.
In the winery, the winemaking process for the Mullineux Syrah begins with half the grapes still attached to their stalks. They ferment spontaneously with native yeasts and without adding any oak or artificial yeast. The wine is then aged for 11 months in 225 and 500 litre French oak barrels, 15% of which are new, and a 2,000 litre foudre. Finally the wine is bottled unfiltered, unrefined and with a minimum amount of sulphur.
Mullineux Syrah is an elegant, silky and pleasantly flavoursome red wine. A very accessible introduction to the new generation Swartland wines.

2016 | Mullineux Syrah is a smooth red wine with fragrant aromas of red fruits, violet floral notes and spicy touches. On the palate it is elegant and modest with a fresh acidity and silky tannins. The finish is lingering and pleasant. |
