About M. Chapoutier Ergo Sum Shiraz
Michel Chapoutier is a distinguished vintner and winemaker from France, celebrated for his pioneering approach and relentless pursuit of vinicultural perfection. As the proprietor of vineyards across various esteemed French wine regions, his holdings span some of the most illustrious areas, such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. However, Chapoutier's vinous aspirations are not confined to French terroirs alone; his expansive vision leads him to traverse the globe, seeking out superior vineyards wherever they may be. His portfolio encompasses a spectrum from accessible wines to high-end labels, where his commitment to biodynamics and sustainable farming plays a pivotal role in emphasizing quality and capturing the unique expression of each vineyard. With an open mindset and a perpetual eagerness to learn, he is willing to journey to the farthest corners of the earth to unlock the full potential of his terroirs. This is how M. Chapoutier Ergo Sum Shiraz came into being, a red wine crafted in Victoria, Australia, that has even won over the likes of Robert Parker (achieving 96+ points in The Wine Advocate for the 2012 vintage).
Produced from syrah vines planted in granitic soil near the Victorian Alps, M. Chapoutier Ergo Sum Shiraz stands as a benchmark for showcasing the excellence of New World wines. Adhering to biodynamic practices that preserve the natural balance of the terroir and the plant, Michel has expertly reflected the soil characteristics, climate, and grape variety in an exceptional manner with each vintage. This dedication continues in the winery, following complete destemming and fermentation and maceration in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts. Ultimately, the wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels prior to bottling.
With its mineral essence and superior quality, M. Chapoutier Ergo Sum Shiraz is a wine that elevates the Australian wine scene. A robust, warm, and refined syrah that the esteemed French vintner and winemaker Chapoutier, under the name "I exist," presents with immense pride.
