About M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc

M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc is a monovarietal wine from a plot of Marsanne. It belongs to the Apellation Ermitage Controlée, from the Hermitage area of theRhone Valley and is produced by Michel Chapoutier.

Maison Capoutier is a winery founded in 1808. It is currently run by Michel Chapoutier, a pioneer in promoting biodynamic cultivation. In his winegrowing he seeks above all to respect the natural balance and the terroir. The winery achieved a record of 9 wines with 100 Parker points in the same year, 2015.

The Mersanne grapes for M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc come from a small 3.6 acre plot located on the top of the Hermitage hill. The vineyard is located about 200 metres above sea level. The granitic soils allow a perfect drainage of the field that is optimal for cultivating vines. The strains are more than 100 years old and produce a balanced and concentrated grape.

To produce M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc the grapes are gently pressed when entering the cellar and the must is statically cold-racked for 24 hours to eliminate its impurities and achieve a clean fermentation. The fermentation takes place in barrels and at a controlled temperature of 18 to 20 ºC. Lastly it is aged on the lees with regular battonages for a period of 10 to 12 months.

M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc is one of the wines that Parker has valued with 100 points most times, about 13! It is a wine made with a variety that is rather neutral, but which here stands out for its high expressive power. It is also a wine with great ageing potential. Depending on the vintage, if it has been preserved under optimal conditions, it can be consumed for the next 45 years, and even longer.
2015 Michel Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc 2015 has complex aromas of vanilla, linden, nuts and almonds, and mineral touches. On the palate it is very rounded, also with a touch of almond, very ripe peach and apricot. Its finish is very lingering and complex.
2014 Michel Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc 2014 has complex aromas of white fruit, vanilla, almonds, nuts and linden. A marked minerality typical of the terroir, also stands out. On the palate it is a very rounded and tasty wine that is balanced and elegant, with a slight bitterness at the end. Aromas of very ripe white fruit such as peach and apricot reappear. Its finish is very lingering and enormously complex.
2013 Michel Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Blanc 2013 offers aromas of orange, pear, nectarine and minerals, with smoky notes. On the palate we encounter a lot of fruit, citrus touches and a marked minerality. It has a great volume and its lingering finish is accompanied by smoky and creamy touches.
