Los Loros Albillo Criollo is a barrel-aged white wine made from the Albillo variety in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands by Juan Francisco Fariña Pérez.
This is a centennial winery located in the Güímar valley, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that used to produce bulk wines. However, in 1999, with the new generation winemaker Juan Francisco Fariña Pérez, they began to produce bottled wines. These are unique creations made with their own vineyards, the region’s native varieties and with minimal intervention in the winery.
Los Loros Albillo Criollo comes from the vines that Juan Francisco Fariña Pérez grows in an exceptional plot lying 850 m above sea level in the village of Arafo, Tenerife. These are vines planted on stony clay soils where the Albillo Criollo native variety reaches the perfect acidity to give the wine a spectacular freshness. They use environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes.
The work in the winery still follows artisan methods. After the Los Loros Albillo Criollo grapes have been destemmed, they are lightly pressed in a pneumatic press and the resulting must ferments spontaneously with its own yeasts at 18ºC in stainless steel tanks. It stays there for 4 months. It then ages for another 2 months in used 500-litre barrels. Finally it is bottled with light clarification and filtering.
Los Loros Albillo Criollo is an expressive, fruity and fresh white wine with a light but enriching touch of wood. A magnificent limited production artisan wine that faithfully reflects the unique Canary terroir of the Güínar valley.
