About Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Côtes du Rhône Villages
The art of winemaking is a deep-rooted tradition that has endured for centuries. There are many wineries and vineyards with a long history and tradition in making wines that have been handed down from generation to generation and have respected the winemaking heritage, often fighting off passing trends. Prioritising quality over quantity, they are willing to invest time and effort in making exceptional wines. Château la Nerthe, one of the historic founding properties of Châteauneuf-du-Pape dates back more than 400 years. This estate extends over approximately 92 hectares and since 1985 it has been owned by Richard de Loste, a family that specialises in wines and coffees for restaurants and has worked hard to maintain and enhance the winery’s reputation.
Producers of remarkable wines, they present Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Côtes du Rhône Villages. This is a coupage of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre from vineyards lying on gently rolling hillsides that provide the highest quality grapes. Vines with an average age of 40 years planted in sandy and limestone soils with fragments of calcareous rocks and at an altitude of up to 600 feet above sea level. The vineyards are completely organic and the grapes are harvested by hand when they reach optimum ripeness. In the winery the grapes are carefully sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation is carried out with the three varieties together and with a maceration of 3 to 4 weeks. Finally, the wine is aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for 9 months before bottling.
As a result, Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Côtes du Rhône Villages is a fine, fruity and elegant Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages. A wine from one of the most praised wineries in Châteauneuf-du-Pape that has managed to preserve the knowledge of a rich winemaking tradition and avoid being swayed by passing trends.
