About Las Rocas de San Alejandro Garnacha Viñas Viejas
Las Rocas de San Alejandro Garnacha Viñas Viejas is a red wine crafted by Bodegas San Alejandro, located in Miedes de Aragón (Zaragoza), within the D.O. Calatayud appellation.
Bodegas San Alejandro was established in 1962 in Miedes de Aragón (Zaragoza), named in honour of Saint Alexander, whose remains are housed in the 17th-century Franciscan Convent of Mudéjar style located in Miedes.
This venture, which began with the enthusiasm and dedication of a group of winegrowers, has now become a benchmark in the region for the production and marketing of top-quality wines. It is distinguished by its excellence in both vineyard management and wine production, aiming to maintain and enhance the standard of living for its members and workers, thereby promoting rural development and providing employment opportunities for future generations.
Thanks to its members, Bodegas San Alejandro boasts a vast array of vineyards, most of which are of significant age, situated at altitudes ranging from 700 to 1100 metres above sea level, with soils comprising black and red slate, rocks, and clay. This wide range of terroirs enables the production of the finest grapes for each type of wine.
Las Rocas de San Alejandro Garnacha Viñas Viejas is a red wine produced from Garnacha Tinta grapes sourced from vineyards aged between 40 and 60 years, located at over 800 metres altitude on very rocky slate soils.
The harvest is conducted manually. Once in the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over 20-25 days at 24°C with the grape skins. It undergoes a pre-maceration for 10 days and a post-maceration for 21 days. Thirty percent of the wine is aged in American and French oak barrels for 10 months.
