About La Furtiva Vinya d'en Miquel

His first steps were in Mallorca, with Eloi Cedo and his 4 Kilos winery. But his story is written in Catalan writing, in the southeast of the province of Tarragona, in the D.O. Terra Alta. Here, where he experiments, makes discoveries and does “whatever he wants” at his La Fugitiva project, Óscar Navas has found a plot that, due to its altitude and soil (calcareous and very shallow), allows for slow maturation. This small oasis is located in the town of Batea. It is where the Hairy Grenache is grown. And from it comes the red wine La Furtiva Vinya d'en Miquel.

It seems that the old vines growing here, aged over 30 years old, have learned to give their best in a region that is not at all easy due to its aridity. In fact, the Mediterranean climate, with little rainfall in the summer, makes the months of June, July and August some of the hardest for the vineyard. Some of this dryness is only relieved by honeycomb soils (which store winter rains in the deeper layers), cool winds and refreshing nights. Only in this way, and with this contrast, can a great concentration and balanced acidity be achieved. In this sense, we should clarify that the Hairy Grenache tends to have less sugars and more freshness than the classic Grenache.

La Furtiva Vinya d'en Miquel is made with the whole cluster, without destemming, starting with a 42-day maceration where the must in contact with the skins will extract a large amount of aromas and flavours (as if it were a stew). This time is more than enough for the wine to develop the necessary and perfect body to begin alcoholic fermentation, with native yeasts, and in concrete tanks. Finally, La Furtiva Vinya d'en Miquel will spend a year aging in chestnut barrels.

2022

La Furtiva Vinya d'en Miquel 2022 emerges with a bold character and a pronounced presence on the palate. On the nose, it unfurls scents of ripe black fruits such as plums and blackberries, interwoven with subtle hints of spices that lend warmth to the ensemble. On the palate, its structure is robust, delivering sensations of concentrated fruit and a gentle spiciness that lingers in a prolonged and gratifying finish. This red wine exhibits a balanced maturity, beckoning to be savored with undivided attention.

La Furtiva Vinya d'en Miquel 2021 is a concentrated red wine with complex aromas of ripe red fruits accompanied by herbal notes and spicy hints. On the palate it is sweet, fresh and balanced. A medium-bodied wine with noticeable acidity, deep tannins and a long, lingering finish.
