About Jaboulet Côte-Rôtie Domaine Des Pierrelles
For centuries, wine has been considered a symbol of status and refinement, and the royal families of different countries have been known for their interest and involvement in the wine industry. But this appreciation for wine, especially in the past, was not just limited to drinking it, but also helped to promote wine culture. By visiting other regions and countries, they became true ambassadors. The wines of the Côte-Rôtie, a denomination in the northern Rhône Valley in France, were long recognised and appreciated by royalty. Wines from prestigious wineries like Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné were enjoyed by the highest echelons of countries like France, England, Russia and Prussia. It is now owned by the Champagne Frey family, and it still has a reputation for its distinctive character and aging potential.
One of the red wines made by this winery, Jaboulet Côte-Rôtie Domaine Des Pierrelles comes from 1.5 hectare plots. These are Syrah vines with an average age of 5-15 years old and planted on soils composed of decomposed mica schist, with the parent rock protruding from the soil. Organic cultivation is used to maintain the natural balance of the terroir and the grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes at the optimum point of ripeness. Once in the winery, they are carefully selected and separated. Fermentation then takes place with native yeasts in temperature-controlled wooden barrels with gentle extractions. Finally, the wine ages for a few months in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new.
A classic wine through and through, Jaboulet Côte-Rôtie Domaine Des Pierrelles is evidence of the success of Old World wines. A smooth, sweet and elegant Syrah wine that tastes like true royalty.
