Characteristics Izadi Selección

Izadi Selección is a blend of the Tempranillo and Graciano varieties produced by Bodegas Izadi in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Part of the Artevino Group alongside other wineries like Villacreces, Vetus and Orben, Izadi dates back to 1987 with Gonzalo Antón and a group of friends. The company’s triangular logo represents the layout of the 178 hectares of vineyards they work with. The winery produces its wines using gravity in their building. With a 50 metre drop, divided into 5 levels, each phase of the process can be carried out with the greatest care to produce modern wines with their own personalities.

Izadi Selección comes from this winery’s best and oldest vineyards in the so-called golden triangle of Rioja Alavesa. This is 12 hectares of low yield strains with an average age of 60 years old, located on clay-calcareous slopes and lying 520 metres above sea level. They use integrated viticulture, respecting the area’s natural conditions as much as possible and carrying out the harvest manually in 15 kg boxes.

After a light destemming and crushing, Izadi Selección ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation is then carried out with 50% in stainless steel tanks and the other 50% in new barrels. Finally, it ages for 16 months in French and American oak barrels that are new, two years old and three years old.

Izadi Selección bottles the best of a winery whose philosophy revolves around the quality of the grapes. A modern Rioja reserva with a commitment to excellence.

Izadi Selección 2015 is a concentrated wine with clear aromas of red fruits and notes of wood as well as a delicately spicy background. On the palate it is fruity, flavoursome and very enveloping. It has a long, balanced and lingering finish.

In the mouth, the same pattern shown in the nose appears: it is expressive and round. It has a good, well integrated acidity and very pleasant ripe tannins. Long and persistent finish.

Nice and intense ruby red colour. Very clean and bright. It shows abundant tears.

Round, balanced and expressive nasal aromas with high intensity. Its notes of red fruit share first stage with some light spicy nuances, soft milky notes and refined aromas provided during the ageing.
