About Honoro Vera Garnacha

Years ago, while Ridley Scott was filming in Spain (specifically in Murcia) his movie The Counselor, he stopped for lunch with part of his crew. During that meal, he tried a red wine: Honoro Vera Garnacha, and he liked it so much that he bought all the stock available at the venue on the spot. However, he has not been the only one to fall under the spell of this wine. According to Miguel and Ángel Gil Vera, owners of the Ateca winery, Denzel Washington is also a client of their distributor in Manhattan and reserves the entire allocation of this wine every year. And that's not all: in 2013, Honoro Vera Garnacha was served at the Oscars dinner! Who would have thought that the D.O. Calatayud was so closely linked to Hollywood? There is little more to add.
 
Honoro Vera Garnacha is a single-variety garnacha cultivated in the old vineyards owned by the Gil family, planted on hilly terrain at altitudes ranging from 700 to 1,000 metres. This variety, considered the mother of all varieties, grows particularly strong and vigorous on a slate-based soil where metamorphic rocks and clayey gravels intermingle. 
 
Honoro Vera Garnacha is harvested and left to ferment in stainless steel tanks where it undergoes alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature, with gentle pump-overs and post-fermentation macerations. Finally, after racking and transferring, Honoro Vera Garnacha undergoes malolactic fermentation and is left to rest in stainless steel tanks until bottling.

Honoro Vera Garnacha 2021 is a smooth and captivating wine with a cherry colour and garnet rim. The nose displays an aromatic intensity dominated by ripe fruit (raspberry/currant) with elegant mineral and spicy notes. On the palate, it is refreshing and easy, with a pleasant fusion of ripe strawberries. Firm and sandy tannins with good balance. Spicy touches and subtle white pepper on the finish.

Honoro Vera Garnacha 2019 is a succulent red wine bursting with vibrant red fruit aromas, floral undertones, and a hint of spice. On the palate, it's fruit-forward, crisp, and delectably sweet. This wine is refreshing, characterized by a pronounced acidity, plentiful tannins, and a delightful finish that beckons for another glass.

 
2016 Honoro Vera 2016 is a juicy red wine, with prevailing fruitiness and intensity of the very ripe Red Grenache. On the nose, it has a lot of red and black fruit with balsamic notes from its ageing. A wine full of fruit and liveliness.
2014 Upon tasting, the fruit prominence is once again notable. It presents as a vibrant, delectable, and enticing wine. Aromatic spices and balsamic nuances. The tannins are flavorsome and somewhat lively. It possesses good acidity and balance. The finish is refreshing and fruit-forward.

It boasts an intense, bright cherry-red color with a garnet rim. The tears are dense and colored.

The nose is exceedingly intense, with red fruit notes such as raspberry and redcurrant, alongside floral undertones. Balsamic, with hints of minerality and spice.
2012 Its high load of fruit aromas is dominant all over the palate. A mellow, tasty and fleshy wine with noticeable but pleasant tannins. It has a good acidity . Well structured and with a medium-long finish.

Very bright beautiful ripe cherry colour with very dark ruby red edges.

The notes of red fruit reminiscent of blueberries, raspberries and redcurrant are dominant, but well integrated with pleasant toasted and spicy aromas. Some balsamic nuances and a light mineral background complete this clean and intense nasal aromatic set.

Deep ripe cherry colour with purple reflections and very bright bluish edges.

Very intense aromas in which the notes of red fruit, blueberries, raspberries and currants stand out. They are well combined with its expressive toasted notes, its spicy and balsamic touches and its mineral background.
2010 Very tasty wine with a good, intense and broad attack. This new wine from Bodegas Ateca is lively, bulky and very powerful. It shows quite a long and slightly sweet mid palate with lots of notes of fruit with a touch of liquor (that remind of liquor filled chocolates) and spices. It is a wine with a good and balanced acidity that provides it with a good freshness. Its refined tannins are noticeable.  A wine from Calatayud perfect to be served at any occasion.

Intense maroon cherry colour with a high robe. Bright and clean wine with good tears that stain the glass.

Intense and very expressive aromas. A a wide range of notes of sweet spices are released along with a great amount of fruity aromas, full of nuances, with lots of chocolate, floral notes reminscent of violets, coffee and milky touches. The set is rounded by a great toasted background.
