About Familia Torres Grans Muralles
Familia Torres Grans Muralles is an estate wine crafted by Torres in the D.O. Conca de Barberà.
Its name, Grans Muralles, is derived from the vineyard from which its grapes are sourced, an exceptionally unique estate. This small vineyard lies at the foot of the walls of the Poblet Monastery and has been under cultivation since the 13th century when it was first planted by Cistercian monks. The soil of the estate is composed of licorella, slate, and gravel.
Familia Torres Grans Muralles is a complex blend of native Catalan grape varieties, some of which, such as Garró or Querol, had almost vanished for centuries and have now been revived by the Torres team of viticulturists. Extensive DNA analysis was required to locate these varieties among pre-phylloxera vines that had been abandoned.
Familia Torres Grans Muralles undergoes maturation in new French oak barrels (Nevers and Allier) for 18 months. It is an extraordinarily distinctive wine, celebrated for its historical significance, its medieval essence, its rare varietals, and its recognition through numerous awards garnered over its vintages. From high Parker scores to Decanter Gold Medals.

2014 | Grans Muralles 2014 is a deep, complex and powerful red wine. A magnificent vintage for this wine, displaying, as it does, a perfect balance between maturity and freshness. On the nose the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out, with spicy and roasted notes of the aging process. On the palate it is intense, with a voluminous, full and very distinguished mouthfeel. And an endless finish. | |
2006 | Great on the palate. Very broad and noble tannins. Herbaceous aromas such as laurel and rosemary. Undergrowth. Spices like cloves. A good acidity and a long after taste. Cherry colour with red trim and medium to medium-high robe. On the nose it is a good intensity. Red fruits, raisins, coppice, jams, toast and some mint notes. |
