Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato Riserva Cà d’Morissio 2014
DOCG Barolo
(Piedmont)
Giuseppe Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Vigna San Stefano di Perno 2021 is an intense and deep ruby red that is very vinous and imposing. The nose is fruity, with floral touches, great intensity and complexity. The palate is dry and full-bodied. There is a certain touch of bitterness that is really delicious. Elegant. Intense finish.
Before him were his ancestors: his great-grandfather Giuseppe Mascarello (who founded the winery), his grandfather Maurizio, his father Giuseppe and his uncle Natale. And now it is his turn to take the reins. Mauro Mascarello is the current generation and director of Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio, one of the most traditional wineries in northern Italy.
Perhaps the responsibility of this whole family history might weigh a little heavy. It was not easy to take over the family business. But now, Mauro Mascarello can proudly boast of the 15 hectares of vineyards he owns in the Barolo area. However, behind all this, there is a great deal of important reconstruction work. Without him, the winery would not be what it is today, nor would it be able to produce such magnificent reds like Giuseppe Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Vigna San Stefano di Perno.
Giuseppe Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Vigna San Stefano di Perno is a fine Italian red wine, a single-variety wine made from Dolcetto (one of the most typical and well-known varieties of northern Italy), grown on the Santo Stefano hill in Perno (in the municipality of Monforte di Alba). This vineyard, where sands, clays and lime abound, is the one this wine is named after, and a place where natural cultivation is carried out (the use of pesticides is reserved for when it is absolutely necessary).
Giuseppe Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Vigna San Stefano di Perno is selected in the vineyard and the best grapes are taken to the winery. Here they are vinified in the pure traditional style, fermenting in open vats and always controlling the temperature. After a year in repose, Giuseppe Mascarello Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Vigna San Stefano di Perno is finally bottled and ready to be enjoyed.
Mauro Mascarello has always been aware of the past. But also of the future. Now his efforts are also focussed on his son Giuseppe, the next generation, who is responsible for continuing this family story that dates back to the 19th century.
