About Fontodi Chianti Classico
The tradition of pottery making in Tuscany (Italy) has its roots in the distant Middle Ages. The clay in this area is schistose, very rich in iron, very malleable and at the same time elastic and resistant. These unique features have characterised the landscape, the architecture, the urban panorama and the local economy. The Manetti family has been dedicated to this typical Chianti activity for centuries. A deep-rooted tradition that has allowed them to have a very profound knowledge of the potential of the Sangiovese, the region’s star grape, and to create their own winemaking project called Fontodi. This term comes from an old Lombard phrase that translates as “Fontana de Oro” (Fountain of Gold) and shows that this is an area rich in water.
Managed by cousins Marco and Giovanni Manetti, this is a certified organic estate of 170 hectares, more than 80 of which are vineyards. This is the birthplace of Fontodi Chianti Classico, a red wine made from a selection of Sangiovese grapes from the best vineyards. The agriculture practiced is inspired by the principles of naturalness and sustainability and no synthetic chemicals are used. Once the grapes are harvested, they ferment spontaneously with native yeasts and macerate in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures for at least 2 weeks. The wine then ages for about 18 months in oak barrels.
Made by a prestigious and historic Tuscan winery, Fontodi Chianti Classico is a simple and genuine but also very elegant red wine. A DOCG Chianti Classico that underlines the traditional style of the area and brings unique emotions to delight in.
2021 |
Fontodi Chianti Classico 2021 stands out for its intensity and body. It offers a rich nose of ripe fruits such as blackberries and plums, accompanied by floral notes of violets. On the palate, a fleshy texture provides depth, balanced by bright acidity that enhances its freshness. The tannins are smooth and rounded, leading to a long and persistent finish.
