Dr. Loosen is one of the best Riesling-producing wineries in the world. TheLoosen family, which owns the winery, has been devoted to winemaking for over 200 years. The last family member to take over the reins was Ernst Loosen. It has vineyards over 60 years old planted ungrafted, and produces around 70,000 bottles annually, making it one of the largest producers in Mosel.
The vineyards for Dr. Loosen Blue Slate R Trocken are planted on soils of blue slate from the Devonian period, in the Paleozoic era. The average production per hectare is about 70 hectolitres, and they are harvested by hand in order to perform a first selection of the bunches while still in the field.
