About Domaine Jules Desjourneys Fleurie Sacré Graal
‘Les Moriers’ and ‘La Chapelle des Bois’ are Fabien Duperry’s two favorite vineyards in the A.O.C. Fleurie. And from them comes Domaine Jules Desjourneys Fleurie Sacré Graal, a single-variety Gamay that is impossible to miss.
Both vineyards are old, over 80 years, and lie in the north and south of thisBeaujolais denomination (in the south of Burgundy), the steepest in the region. The steep slopes of the A.O.C. Fleurie make it the highest, with an average altitude of 340 metres above sea level. It is rich in granitic soils, especially pink quartz, and the depth varies depending on the slopes. While the ’Les Moriers’ soils are much more clayey, the ‘La Chapelle des Bois’ soils are full of sand (possibly the result of granite erosion).
Today the A.O.C. Fleurie is the result of a very rich geological history, which is worth studying, with more than 300 different types of soils. And Fabien Duperry was able to see, recognise and respect this diversity. For this reason, biodynamic cultivation is the only possible option for these vineyards, where Duperry believes in not using anything that masks the final result of the wine. For this same reason, this winemaker, who in 2007 decided to leave his job as a wine representative and embark on this adventure, stopped using wood in his winemaking and aging processes, and went in search of more neutral materials, like glass and stainless steel, which don’t affect the final result of the wines. Domaine Jules Desjourneys Fleurie Sacré Graal is fermented and left to settle for at least two years, allowing it to develop its full potential.
Usually the red wines from the A.O.C. Fleurie are delicate and feminine. However, don’t let this fool you, because the Domaine Jules Desjourneys Fleurie Sacré Graal wine has all the character in the world. Its potency and flavour are sure to leave an impression. After all, having character doesn’t have to be at odds with being elegant, right?
2015 | Domaine Jules Desjourneys Fleurie Sacré Graal 2015 is a ripe and juicy, fruity and deep red. Carmine red in colour, tasting begins on the nose with a true spectacle and display of flowers, lilies, violets, peach, currants and red fruits. The palate is satiny and silky, full-bodied. Bright, well-balanced acidity. Highly concentrated. Promises a bright future. |
