About Charlopin-Parizot Bourgogne Côte d'or Première Cuvée
Some people find that working with their father is something that gets on their nerves. Not with you, but not without you either. A relationship between love and hate where sometimes the difference of opinions does not help. However, that is not the case for Philippe and Yann Charlopin, father and son who are proving to understand each other perfectly. One is the fifth generation of a traditional Burgundy winegrowing family; the other is the latest generation, the new blood that comes to renew all the processes, bringing a much more innovative vision. And the result couldn’t be better. Together they have blazed a new trail, a new generation that stands out in Burgundy with wines such as Charlopin-Parizot Bourgogne Côte d'or Première Cuvée.
The two understand each other well. That is the basis of everything. For both father and son, the terroir is the main thing, the essential thing that must speak and stand out in each bottle. To achieve this, there is no better variety than pinot noir, the area’s native grape capable of gathering and showing each of these nuances. Like a blank canvas, this variety is capable of gathering up each of the peculiarities that differentiate these clay-limestone soils. These minimal differences are what led this pairing, especially Philippe Charlopin, to fight for the recognition of the Bourgogne Cote d'Or AOC. Finally, they achieved it in 2017 when a group of 40 municipalities, that until then had been under the Bourgogne AOC designation, were allowed to add a special recognition that would differentiate the complexity and authenticity of their soils.
However, it is in the winery where the union between father and son can best be seen in a winemaking process that produces the perfect symbiosis between tradition and innovation. In addition to the destemming and fermentation so typical of Burgundy, other nuances are added, such as ageing in non-traditional oak barrels, where Charlopin has dared to experiment with other types of wood. For decades, wine has been a true passion in the Charlopin family. Today, its future is guaranteed. Long live Charlopin-Parizot Bourgogne Côte d'or Première Cuvée. Cheers to this wine (and may many more like it follow after).
