About Château Musar Hochar
Château Musar Hochar is a barrel-aged red wine from the Bekaa Valley (Lebanon) made by Château Musar with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Garnacha Tinta varieties.
Château Musar is a Lebanese winery that gained international prestige in 1979, when their house wine was chosen as the discovery of the event at the Wine Fair. Having spent time learning in Bordeaux, owner Gaston Hochar planted his own vineyards in the town of Ghazir, about 25 kilometers north of Beirut, on terroirs used centuries ago by Phoenicians and Romans who were already aware of the quality of wines from this area. Today his grandsons Gastón and Marc are running the project with the same passion and dedication as their grandfather.
The Château Musar Hochar wine comes from a single vineyard in the fertile Bekaa Valley (Lebanon). Strains with an average age of 35 years old located 1,000 metres above sea level and planted on gravel and limestone soil. It is characterised by cold winters and hot summers and the vines are cultivated in a way that respects the environment, with the harvest carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
Château Musar Hochar is a coupage of red varieties that are vinified separately. Firstly, they macerate and ferment at a controlled temperature of between 27 and 29ºC in cement tanks. Then they age for 9 months in French Nevers oak barrels. Finally the different wines are mixed and bottled.
Château Musar Hochar is a wine that is made year after year despite the challenges in getting the grapes from the vineyard to the winery, both because of the country’s socio-political problems as well as the area’s difficult terrain. So this is a great surviving wine made using ancient traditions.
