About Château De Pez
Château De Pez is a red wine coupage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It is produced by Château de Pez in La Salle Saint-Estèphe and belongs to the AOC Saint Estèphe, in Bordeaux.
Château de Pez rivals Calon Ségur as the oldest of all Bordeaux vineyards. It cultivates his 39 hectares on the hills around the château and was acquired by Louis Roeder in 1995. It is located in the west of the commune of Saint-Estèphe.
The vineyards for Château De Pez are spread over a total of 39 hectares. The vines have an average age of 30 years, and the planting density is approximately 6,500 to 10,000 plants per hectare. The planting density and the age of the plants results in the yield per strain being low but in its quality being high. The soils of the plots consist of sands and marls, and there are also some areas with more limestone.
Château de Pez is harvested manually and destemmed and pressed before being vatted. It ferments in oak vats and macerates with the skins for 20 to 30 days. It then ages in French oak barrels, 40% of which are renewed annually. The aging is approximately 12-18 months and its duration will depend on the ageing potential of the wine and the quality of the harvest.
Château De Pez is an intense and complex Bordeaux red wine with a good ageing potential.
2015 | Château De Pez 2015 is a wine with aromas of rose petals and very ripe red and black fruit, and with touches of toast, spiced elements with tobacco and scorched earth. In general terms, it is a red wine with a beautiful olfactory complexity. On the palate it is solid and deep, and will evolve pleasantly, revealing great richness in the mouth. Its tannins are silky and persistent, without aggressiveness, and well rounded. |
