Castello Monaci Primitivo Piluna is a Primitivo variety red wine produced by Castello Monaci in the IGT Salento (Puglia).
Castello Monaci, a winery built next to a castle in Salermo, in what is commonly called the “boot heel”, is the result of modernity combined with deep roots. They are committed to both the area’s native varieties and the typical tuff, as well as to using the most modern technology for maximum precision in the vineyard and in the winery.
Castello Monaci Primitivo Piluna comes from vineyards that surround the old Monaci castle. Planted in dry clay, volcanic gravel and limestone soils, the grapes enjoy the high temperatures of the sun and the Adriatic and Ionian sea winds. They use sustainable cultivation that is certified by the international company DNV-GL. The harvest is carried out manually and at night to guarantee the quality of the berry.
The Castello Monaci Primitivo Piluna grapes are vinified in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Then, for 6 months, 75% of the wine ages in stainless steel and 25% in second and third use French oak.
Taking into account that Piluna refers to an old container used to store wine, Castello Monaci Primitivo Piluna is a red wine associated with a Mediterranean area with a long history of winemaking.
