About Cascina Delle Rose Barbaresco Rio Sordo

Cascina Delle Rose Rio Sordo is an organic, barrel-aged red wine made by Cascina Delle Rose with the Nebbiolo variety in the Piedmont denomination of DOCG Barbaresco (Italy).

Cascina Delle Rose is named after the large number of roses growing on the estate. It is a family winery run by Giovanna Rizzolio. As one of the first women to run a winery in Langhe in the 90s, she is a pioneer in the traditional Barbaresco region. Nebbiolo in its most elegant and feminine expression.

Cascina Delle Rose Rio Sordo comes from vineyards located in the valley with the same name. These are old vines planted in 1978 in calcareous-clay and sandy soils. The vines are grown using ecological agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

In the winery, the Cascina Delle Rose Rio Sordo grapes ferment in contact with their skins for 12-14 days at a controlled temperature. It is then aged in traditional 10-17 hl Slavic oak barrels for 22 months. Finally, it is bottled without filtering or clarifying and rests for 8 months in the winery before being sold.

The Barbaresco denomination is known for producing the most delicate and feminine version of the Nebbiolo variety. Cascina Delle Rose Rio Sordo is a great example of this. Enveloping delicacy.

Cascina Delle Rose Barbaresco Rio Sordo 2022 showcases a captivating bright ruby red hue. On the nose, it unveils intense notes of raspberry and black cherry, interwoven with subtle hints of liquorice and a freshness reminiscent of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, its fine and perfectly integrated tannins impart a lively freshness that balances its concentration. The structure, though austere, promises a lingering experience, imbuing each sip with depth and elegance. In 2022, despite the climatic challenges, a harvest was achieved that highlights these characteristics of the wine, making it a recommended choice for those seeking a profound and expressive wine.

Cascina Delle Rose Rio Sordo 2018 is an elegant and refined red wine. The bouquet is notably expressive, brimming with fruit scents, complemented by floral hints of wild rose and a medley of fruit aromas including cherry, blackcurrant, and pomegranate. On the palate, it is polished, with subtle flavors of crushed stone and white licorice emerging in the finish.
2017 Cascina Delle Rose Rio Sordo 2017 is a concentrated red wine with deep aromas of ripe red fruit. On the palate it is soft, enveloping and very elegant. A wine with beautiful acidity and fine, well-structured tannins.
