About Arenisca
In the DO Toro (Castilla y León), the wines are renowned for their robustness and character, but what happens when we encounter one that breaks with that tradition and surprises us with its freshness and agility? It's a true gem! Isaac Cantalapiedra, the winemaker at the family winery in La Seca (Valladolid), has achieved this with his unique and respectful approach to the variety and terroir. His dedication has elevated his wines to a level of expressiveness rarely seen in the region, offering a fresh and elegant alternative in an area known for powerful and full-bodied wines.
A perfect example of this is Arenisca. This red, crafted from tinta de toro grapes, hails from old vineyards at an altitude of 780 metres in the village of Villabuena del Puente, near Toro. Its name, Arenisca, refers to the sandy terrain where the vines thrive. The old vines are cultivated entirely organically, with meticulous attention to every detail of the process, and are harvested at the optimal point of ripeness. Once in the winery, 20% of the grapes ferment with the stems, adding complexity and character, and the remainder undergoes malolactic fermentation and ageing in French barrels for nearly a year. Finally, the wine is bottled without filtering or fining and without the addition of sulphur, preserving its full essence.
Arenisca is an invitation to discover a different facet of the Toro region. With its freshness, elegance, and personality, it offers a unique experience that challenges the expectations of those familiar with the area for its powerful and full-bodied wines. Undoubtedly, a wine for those seeking a more subtle and refined proposition in a land of great winemaking tradition. Don't miss it!

| 2022 |
Arenisca 2022 exhibits a deep cherry red hue. On the nose, it reveals aromas of red fruits such as cherries and strawberries, accompanied by nuances of black fruits like blackberries. There are also hints of spices, minerals, and a touch of wild herbs. On the palate, it is a smooth and juicy wine, with rounded tannins and a good level of acidity that makes it highly enjoyable. The oak is well-integrated, providing structure without overshadowing the fruity profile. It is a light and fluid wine, perfect for any occasion. |
