We can’t control meteorological phenomena, life cycles and harvests. We are at the mercy of nature. But what might seem negative at first, Arantxa de Cara and Marc Milà, who run Can Descregut, have managed to turn and make the best of. The beauty of wine is that it is a living process and a good winemaker adapts the winemaking process to the grapes that are harvested each year. So every bottle is unique and original. But although each vintage is different in itself, it must be said that they have also managed to bring their own style of wine that we can recognise and enjoy year after year. Located in Vilobí del Penedès, in the heart of the Penedès, they work 30 hectares of vineyards spread over 4 estates with different soils, altitudes and orientations and, in each of them, they are committed to local varieties, organic practices and minimal intervention. This is how they achieve a range of original wines that reflect their passion for their work and their territory.

Under this new philosophy that claims a natural approach to production, Can Descregut Òrbites Improbables is born, the first orange wine made by Can Descregut that is a masterful coupage of the native varieties Xarel·lo, Xarel·lo Rojo and Muscat of Alexandria. Sourced from vineyards with an average age of 35 years old planted on calcareous soils with clay elements, the estate gets a lot of cool wind from the sea, which produces grapes with a good level of freshness. They are cultivated with organic certification and biodynamic practices and, once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested and selected by hand in the vineyard. Then, in the winery, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and vatted directly into stainless steel tanks where spontaneous fermentation takes place with native yeasts and in contact with the skins for 20 days. The wine then ages in 500-litre amphorae for 8 months and is bottled without clarifying, stabilising or adding sulphur.

With a label showing a wine amphora orbiting a planet, Can Descregut Òrbites Improbables is energetic, fresh and mineral. An orange wine that joins with the forces of nature and shows us that although life is full of unforeseen events, we can always make the best of it.
