About Camillo Donati Il Mio Malvasia

Malvasía di Candia Aromática is one of the oldest and most aromatic grape varieties in the world. In times gone by, the masters of producing wines with this variety were the Cretans (from the Greek island of Crete) who, thanks to their expertise, successfully sold their wines throughout the Mediterranean. It was soon brought to Italy by the first settlers and immediately the variety took very well in regions like Emilia-Romagna. Although until recently this grape was only vinified as a sweet grape, it has now been found to give excellent results even in dry form. One of the great champions of showcasing Malvasía in its most natural state is undoubtedly Camillo Donati, a winegrower who, together with his wife Francesca, produces minimal intervention wines on their 15-hectare estate in Groppone, Parma (Emilia-Romagna).

Their Camillo Donati Il Mio Malvasía is a sparkling wine born on clay and limestone soils. These Malvasía di Candia Aromática vines are cultivated according to organic principles and biological treatments. The wine is vinified in the winery, following the ancient method, with a first spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and 2 days of skin- contact maceration, and a second fermentation in the bottle.

Camillo Donati Il Mio Malvasía is a dry interpretation of the Malvasía di Candia variety. An original wine made in the most traditional IGT Emilia style, which is perfect for enjoying and sharing on any occasion.

 

2023 Camillo Donati Il Mio Malvasia 2023 is a youthful and vibrant sparkling wine. On the nose, it stands out with fresh aromas of peach and pear, accompanied by a subtle hint of green apple. On the palate, it is light and refreshing, with fine bubbles that enhance its fruity character. Its finish is clean and pleasant, leaving a sensation of freshness that invites further enjoyment. Camillo Donati Il Mio Malvasia 2020 is a fruity sparkling wine with fragrant aromas of ripe fruit, dried fruit, citrus and honey. The palate is equally powerful with vibrant acidity and a savoury, magnetic mid-palate. The finish is long and has a bitter aftertaste that is typical of the variety.
