Birichino Enz Vineyard Mr Natural 2019
Lime Kiln Valley
(California)
Birichino Peter Martin Ray Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is a concentrated red wine with a complex bouquet of black fruit, smoky notes and hints of exotic spice. The palate is firm, energetic and flavoursome. A wine of impeccable character with dusty tannins, a light acidic flavour and an impressively long, spicy finish.
California, Alsace, Piemonte, Puglia... The world is full of wine regions that are a source of inspiration for intrepid winemakers who want to produce wines that bring pleasure, revitalise and revive. And it is in this vein of taking the best from each of these places and beyond that Alex Krause and John Locke, two winemaker friends who met while working at Bonny Doon, decided to set up their own project in 2008 in the southern end of California’s wine country. Under the name Birichino, which literally means “mischievous” in Italian, they make pleasant wines with higher acid content and lower alcohol content than we are used to from classic California wines.
One example of this “New wave California” style is Birichino Peter Martin Ray Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. A red wine from the Santa Cruz Mountains in California (USA), made from an exclusive old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon that is organically and sustainably cultivated. In the winery, Krause and Locke favour spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 21 months in French oak barrels. Finally, it is bottled without filtering or clarifying.
Perfumed, elegant and low in alcohol, Birichino Peter Martin Ray Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a new generation red wine. A Cabernet Sauvignon from old vines with pedigree and exceptional value for money.
