Benoit Courault Les Rouliers is a natural cask-aged red wine made by Benoit Courault from Cabernet Franc grapes in the Loire region of France.
In between artisan and farmer, Benoit Courault is one of the new French winegrowers who’s gaining popularity in France, especially among lovers of natural wines. Influenced by greats such as Dominique Derain, Yvon Métras and Eric Pfifferling, he starts from the premise that all the work is concentrated in the vineyard and, once the grapes reach the winery, minimal intervention is required to achieve pure and deliciously smooth wines.
Benoit Courault Les Rouliers comes from vineyards located on decomposed schist slopes. They are vines with an average age of 55 years, which are worked organically without chemicals and only with the help of a draft horse. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the cellar, whole bunches of Benoit Courault Les Rouliers are macerated for 12 days in fibreglass vats and fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels and the wine is finally bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites.
Produced by one of the latest authorities in natural wines in the Loire, Benoit Courault Les Rouliers is a red wine which stands out for its beautiful personality. Sweet and fresh evanescence.
Benoit Courault Les Rouliers 2019 is a smooth red wine with aromas of fresh red fruit, notes of violet flowers and hints of spice. On the palate it’s fresh, crisp and mineral. An easy-to-drink and deliciously addictive wine.
