About Batič Rosé
A sworn anti-technologist, Ivan Batic has maintained a wine estate in the Vipava Valley (Slovenia) that dates back to the monks who worked this same land more than 400 years ago. He has so much faith in the natural course of the vineyard and his relationship with it that even when his son Miha told him he wanted to continue his winemaking career, Ivan forbade him from attending oenology school for fear of being influenced by overly technical methods. As he says himself, he prefers them to be seen more “as expert pickers than clumsy winemakers”. So the Batič family makes biodynamic wines with minimal intervention that honestly reflect the land and the vintage and are very well thought of around the world.
One of their productions is Batič Rosé, one of Slovenia’s most notable rosés. This wine comes from old Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted on loam and clay soils. They are cultivated using completely organic agriculture with Demeter certified biodynamic treatments in harmony with nature and the lunar phases. Yields are only 40 hectolitres per hectare and Batič uses only the best and ripest grapes. They are harvested by hand, crushed and macerated briefly in the winery. Alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. It is made in a traditional dry style with just a touch of residual sugar. Finally, the wine is bottled without being clarified, filtered or adding sulphites.
Batič Rosé was first released in 1987, and every year it is highly praised. Whether it is the unrivalled setting of the Vipava Valley, the Batič family’s deep connection with nature, or a combination of the two, the fact is that this is one of the mostnotable rosés in Slovenia.
2020 |
Batič Rosé 2020 is a concentrated wine with a bouquet of red fruits, herbaceous notes and menthol hints. On the palate it is light, fresh and mineral. A well-structured rosé with pleasant acidity and pronounced roundness. The finish is long with a lasting, elegant and deep aftertaste of fruit and almond hints. |
