Bardos Viñedos de Altura is a signature red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero, crafted by Bodegas Bardos, a member of the Grupo Vintae which is renowned for producing distinguished wines across twelve different Spanish D.O.s such as Hacienda López de Haro.
Bardos Viñedos de Altura is predominantly composed of Tempranillo grapes, although it also includes other varietals such as Albillo Mayor and Garnacha Tinta. The grapes are meticulously selected from vineyards located in Soria, nestled between the villages of Villálvaro and Alcubilla de Avellaneda. Here, at altitudes exceeding 900 meters, ancient vines thrive on sandy soils interspersed with fine gravel, situated at the very source of the Duero River, in close proximity to the Urbión peak.
The production of Bardos Viñedos de Altura commenced with a manual harvest conducted between September and October. Once collected, the grapes are transported to the winery in 15-kilo boxes and small trailers. There, a meticulous selection process is undertaken to identify the finest clusters. Subsequently, Bardos Viñedos de Altura undergoes fermentation and maceration for two weeks in 15,000 Kg vats. Following fermentation and maceration, Bardos Viñedos de Altura is subject to malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, accompanied by weekly batonage and a stringent monitoring of each barrel.
Finally, Bardos Viñedos de Altura is aged for approximately one year in oak vessels of various sizes, resulting in a wine that is both smooth and distinctive.
