About Aseginolaza & Leunda Cuvée Las Santas
Throughout history, there have been many pairs of friends who have collaborated and achieved great things in different fields. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak revolutionised the technology industry with the creation of Apple, Marie Curie and Albert Einstein made important contributions to physics and science, and the songs of Lennon and McCartney, members of The Beatles, have become icons of music history. It is clear that a solid foundation of trust and emotional support always helps towards working effectively as a team and overcoming challenges. In the case of Joan Aseginolaza and Pedro Leunda, two biologist friends who started their own winemaking project together in 2016, the results are most successful. With very small numbered productions from old garnacha vines that have been revived, they are causing quite a stir in the Navarra region. A revolution not to be missed.
As a result of this joint work, Aseginolaza & Leunda Cuvée Las Santas was born, a wine that comes from several micro-plots of old garnacha vines planted on limestone-clay soils. The work is carried out in an environmentally-friendly manner, and the grapes are harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes. Once in the winery, 50% of the grapes are destemmed and alcoholic fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and daily manual cap plunging. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in old French oak barrels for 9 months. Finally, it is bottled unfiltered, clarified by natural decantation and without additives, except for a minimum dose of sulphur dioxide.
This is how Aseginolaza & Leunda Cuvée Las Santas was born, a garnacha where this pair of passionate biologists have managed to find the perfect balance between fruit and wood, and where the quality of Navarra's terroir wines is highlighted. A real joy, the fruit of friendship and dedication!
2020 | Aseginolaza & Leunda Cuvée Las Santas 2020 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red fruit accompanied by spicy notes and hints of scrubland. On the palate, it’s ample, tense and fresh. A very balanced medium-bodied wine with pronounced acidity, very expressive fruitiness and a long, somewhat sapid finish. |
