About Artuke

Back in 1991, Roberto De Miguel Blanco resolved to take the definitive step to launch his grand project. He was acutely aware of the quality of his wines and confident that what they offered could be well defended as a worthy heir to a long-standing tradition. Now, the latest link in the long chain that breathes life into this saga materialises in the form of Arturo and Kike. Two names. One mission. A singular passion. From their fusion emerges Artuke, one of the finest wineries that also embodies one of the best wines of the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

From Baños de Ebro in La Rioja Alavesa comes this carbonic maceration red wine, the result of the plots owned by the winery in this village, which rests upon clay-limestone soils. This foundation is the source and origin that breathes life into the old vineyards planted in 1902, which today remain under the guardianship and care of these brothers who strive to convey and preserve the essence of this region. This is no easy feat, as it requires staying true to traditional production methods, which at times entails twice the effort. This very patience and sacrifice are the driving force necessary for Artuke, which lacks certification, to be cultivated organically, using only copper and sulphur.

Artuke is harvested manually and brought to the winery, constructed in 1984, where the grapes are processed with stems. After an initial selection, Artuke is directly placed into fermentation tanks to undergo carbonic maceration. This vinification technique, very common and typical of this area, aims for the alcoholic fermentation to occur inside the grape, while it is still whole, before the clusters are crushed. This results in a wine of great juiciness and intensity. Finally, once racked and pressed, Artuke is bottled and released to the world, ready to surprise and captivate the hearts of red wine enthusiasts in general, and devotees of D.O.Ca. Rioja in particular.
