Artadi El Pisón is a red wine made by the Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi winery in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa.
Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi’s origins date back to 1985, when a group of winegrowers decided to get together and start making their wines as a cooperative.
In 1992 the Lacalle took over the running of this cooperative with the aim of producing unique wines, wines that reflect their origin. They put all their effort into cultivating the vineyard, thereby giving greater prominence to smallholding wines. This led to them leaving the D.O.Ca. Rioja in 2015, without abandoning wine production in this region.
Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi currently has over 80 hectares of vineyards in La Rioja, with different characteristics, especially in terms of the composition of the soils. It is also part of the winemaking group that also consists of the wineries Bodegas y Viñedos Artazu (Navarre) and Bodegas y Viñedos El Sequé (Alicante).
Artadi El Pisón is the winery's smallholding wine, made with Tempranillo grapes from a vineyard planted in 1945 in Laguardia, 480 meters above sea level, on deep calcareous clay soils. Eco-friendly winegrowing is practiced in this vineyard, with certification from the 2016 vintage onwards. The average yield is 3500 kg / ha.
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 15 kg boxes, with the selection being performed in the vineyard itself. Once in the cellar they ferment with native yeasts in open wooden vats for 10-12 days with daily treading and a small pump-over. The malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels where the wine remains for 12 months.
El Pisón shows a very intense, dark cherry color. Dense legs.
Viña El Pison 2005 is a round, fat and elegant wine. A wine that fills the mouth with a tasty mid palate and lots of fruit. Creamy, fine and ripe tannins. Fine toasty aftertaste and a long lingering finish.
Very intense dark cherry colour. Dense tear.
Bodegas Artadi was founded in Laguardia back in 1985 as the´Cooperative Cosecheros Alaveses’', led by Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle. It was an association of a group of growers that wanted to collaborate on a business project based on the viticultural wealth of the La Rioja Alavesa region. They wanted the opportunity to prove that the use of carbonic maceration could also produce great wines, and this they did.
Artadi has a history linked to the memory and stories of the people who helped found the winery and make what it is today. Outside of the busy and overcrowded industry , Artadi is based on passion and respect for the land and vineyards.
