Arnot-Roberts Gamay El Dorado is an organic, wood-aged red wine made by Arnot-Roberts from the Gamay variety in El Dorado, California (USA).
The Arnot-Roberts winery was set up in 2001 by Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts, two childhood friends from Napa Valley. In order to make great wines, they seek out special vineyards from environmentally friendly growers in Northern California. Using a minimal intervention winemaking process, they create honest and very expressive wines.
Arnot-Roberts Gamay El Dorado comes from two vineyards lying at 2,000 metres above sea level. The vines are planted on decomposed granitic soils and clay of volcanic origin. They are cultivated using organic agriculture and no chemical products. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, the Arnot-Roberts Gamay El Dorado grapes are fermented with all the stems through a partial carbonic maceration. The wine is then aged for 10 months in used French oak barrels.
Considering that Gamay is an unusual variety in California, Arnot-Roberts Gamay El Dorado is quite a surprise. A fine and unique Californian Gamay.
